Technical land management for living systems. Serving the tristate area.
-
We bridge the gap between conservation science and landscape practice, providing technical design, installation, and long-term stewardship for resilient ecosystems. See Projects>

We view the landscape not as a static object, but as a living timeline. By prioritizing native plant communities, soil biology, and successional planning, we create outdoor spaces that increase in resilience and beauty with every season. Learn More >

Pond Garden
Typology: Aquatic Ecosystem / Shade Garden Constraints: High deer pressure, deep shade, moist soil. Strategy: Bank stabilization using native hydrophytes. Introduction of seasonal color through resilient, deer-proof texture.
-
The site presented distinct physical boundaries defined by a existing tree line. The primary challenge was managing deep shade while addressing the moist soil conditions inherent to the water's edge, requiring a design that works with the lack of light rather than against it."
-
To stabilize the bank without using concrete, we designed natural retaining walls using stone and root mass. The central bubbler was integrated not just for aesthetics, but to oxygenate the water column and prevent stagnation in the shade.
-
The planting list focuses strictly on deer resistant natives. We selected species like Caltha palustris and Nymphaea odorata to establish a resilient littoral zone that filters runoff and provides seasonal interest despite heavy browsing pressure.
